Pop won’t eat itself: McDonalds “Mac-attack” Advergame promotes anti-hamburger sentiment

A curious thing, the advertising game.  Particularly when you look beyond the initial message, and ponder what it could mean that your role in the video game is to destroy hamburgers, with coins, whilst they advance on the Golden Arches(TM) logo…and if the hamburger comes into contact with you, your character dies.

Hamburgers attack. You defend. Failure is marked by a contact with the hamburger.  What is this? Some form of anti-hamburger message?  The Hamburgers are relentless in their quest to destroy the Golden Arches logo – that’s not a suitable metaphor even if it’s a subtle one.

Yet I know that people will blame this game for obesity, despite the overwhelming message of the game play being “Destroy hamburger, avoid hamburger, hamburger bring failure”.
